Visitor Information
Volunteer
There are many ways to share your talents at the
Joel Lane Museum House.
We have openings for many types of volunteers who can work either week days or on Saturday afternoons. The jobs include office assistants, tour guides, hands-on history presenters, gardeners, distributors of flyers, and those who can sew or even wash and iron costumes! At special events, we need all kinds of assistance from setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and tents, greeting and counting visitors, to serving punch and selling items from the gift shop.
Hands-on History Assistant — take exciting new programs into the schools with seasoned volunteers. On-call basis, depending on times requested by schools.
Hands-on History Presenter — learn a short script that keeps the children and adults captivated as they touch the items you present either during the week in schools or on weekends at special events.
Tour Assistant — assist docents with group tours; no need to learn a script. Needed for school tours.
Docent — learn a script and lead tours during school hours
Green Thumb (Garden Assistant) — on Saturdays or weekdays to be determined with Garden Chairmen
Office Assistant — tell us a time that works for you!
Costumer — hand sew costumes, aprons, etc
Grant Writing Assistant — HELP us obtain more funding!!
Publicity Assistant — Distribute flyers to area museums and other public sites
Special Events Assistant — Assist with off-site weekend events at other historic sites in the JLMH booth selling our merchandise or presenting hands-on history.
Don’t see something you’d like to do? Give us a call or drop us a line. We are small enough to consider what you’d like to propose.
