Lecture on George Washington’s 1791 Tour of the South--SOLD OUT

when: Oct. 4, 2009

This event was sold out as of 10/2/2009.  Sorry, we were not be able to accomodate any walk-ins. Mr Bingham spoke at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 4. Because of the large crowd, we moved from the cozy and charming Visitors Center across the street to a meeting room in an office building owned by Coleman and Associates.  Thank you to Mr. Coleman! Warren Bingham reprised his sold-out lecture on George Washington’s 1791 Southern Tour. Admission was $15 for the public and $10 for members of the Joel Lane Historical Society. Refreshments were served. Seating was limited, and reservations were required. Guests called 919-833-3431 with their MasterCard or Visa, or mailed a check to P O Box 10884, Raleigh NC 27605.  If you missed his first lecture in February, this was your second chance.

Warren Bingham is a native of Mount Gilead, NC and now resides in Raleigh; he has lived his entire life in North Carolina and Virginia and is an enthusiastic student of American and Southern history, culture, architecture, and landscape.

He shares this interest through speaking and writing and has presented to a variety of groups on topics in history since 1991. In addition, he has been published in a number of newspapers and specialty journals, as well as reference books by UNC Press.

Presently he works full time on My Kind of Southern Tour, a book that revisits George Washington’s 1791 presidential visit to Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. The book will be published in a joint venture by the Center for American Places, a publisher in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the University of Chicago Press and will be for general readers.

A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a master’s degree from Hollins University in Virginia, Warren now spends considerable time at Peace College in Raleigh, where his wife Laura is president. He is a wonderful speaker; the audience experienced a real treat!
