Lizzie Lane’s Colonial Tea 2010 was SOLD OUT!

when: Sep. 19, 2010

Lizzie Lane’s Colonial Tea took place on Sunday, September 19, 2010 from 3 to 5 pm. The rain date was Sunday, September 26. Girls, mothers, and grandmothers learned about the custom of taking tea in the colonial and early American eras. They relaxed under tents in the beautiful gardens where they drank tea or lemonade from china tea sets, ate delicious and beautiful cakes and sandwiches, and participated in crafts and games after tea. Activities included: learning the Virginia Reel danced to live music, “tin” punching ornaments, making rag dolls, dipping candles, and playing early American games.

Admission to the tea for the general public cost $30 for adults and $20 for children aged 12 and under; for members of the Joel Lane Historical Society: $25 for adults and $15 for children aged 12 and under. All tickets had to be purchased in advance and were non-refundable. Participants could mail a check to PO Box 10884, Raleigh NC 27605, or call 919-833-3431 with MasterCard, or Visa credit cards to purchase tickets. Minimum age was 5 years. Proceeds benefited the programs of the organization.

Thanks to sponsors: Costco, Ginny O’s Cheese Rings, The Fresh Market, Harris Teeter, The Pound Cake Company, Teagschwender, and Whole Foods Market.

What visitors say

Thank you so much for letting our IB Human Geography class come tour the Joel Lane house. I really enjoyed learning about how high-class people lived back them. I was surprised to hear that they were always working and had no time to themselves. I was also shocked at the size of the beds. They were so small! You two really played good parts and made me feel like I was really back in those times.
