Tavern Party

The Tavern Party will take place on Thursday, October 27th, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm with a rain date of Friday, October 28. It will be chaired by Sterling Wheless and put on by a host committee. It will take place in the gardens at 160 South Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC. Admission will be $30 per person and $25 for members of the Joel Lane Historical Society. Must have been 21 years of age to attend. Advanced purchase is strongly suggested either by MasterCard or Visa to 919-833-3431 or check to PO Box 10884, Raleigh NC 27605. Tickets are non-refundable unless we must cancel the event. An email will be sent if we must move to the rain date, so be sure to provide your email address when purchasing tickets.

Colonel Lane was a founding father of North Carolina’s capital city and an officer in the Wake County militia during the American Revolutionary War. He owned a tavern on his plantation for many years. Guests will toast his contributions to the founding of the capital city, Raleigh, at the location of his home that was built in about 1770.

The event will include a beer tasting of delicious brews from Boylan Bridge Brew Pub. Light appetizers will be served. Music on Thursday will be provided by Southern String Band. Wine will be available for those who don’t drink beer. Volunteers will be on hand to lead guests through some of the activities colonial gentlemen engaged in at taverns, including table top games such as dice and quoits and dancing the Cumberland and Virginia Reels. Bear baiting and wrestling will not be permitted!
