The Joel Lane Museum House presents a lecture on “Things that Went Bump in the Night in the Early American Republic” by Craig Friend

From witches and angels to headless horsemen and mermaids, the early American republic was filled with the mystical and the paranormal. Just in time for Halloween, Dr. Craig Friend will explore some supernatural encounters and speculate on what they tell us about the era and its inhabitants.

Time: Sunday, October 15, 2017, 2:00pm

Location: 160 South Saint Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC (at the corner of Hargett St.), which is two blocks south of Hillsborough St., not far from downtown.

Admission: For the public: $16; Members of the Joel Lane Historical Society: $11. Advanced purchase is required, and seating is very limited. Proceeds from the event directly support JLMH’s educational programming and site preservation. Refreshments provided. Craig Thompson Friend is Professor of History and Director of the Public History Program at North Carolina State University. He co-edited the book Death and the American South, and researches and writes about masculinity, the family, and Southern death culture. He is currently writing a biography of Lunsford Lane.
