Lizzie Lane’s Colonial Tea

when: Sep. 28, 2008

Admission to the tea was $25 for adults and $15 for children aged 12 and under, payable in advance.  Participants mailed a check to PO Box 10884, Raleigh NC 27605, or called us at 919-833-3431 with MasterCard, Visa, or Discover credit cards to reserve places. Minimum age was 5 years.

While drinking tea or lemonade and cakes, guests learned the etiquette of taking tea in the colonial manner.  After tea, they participated in a craft, colonial games, or learned a Scottish country dance. Music was provided by “Flies in the Kitchen,” a string quartet.

What visitors say

Thank you so much for leading us on a guided tour of the Joel Lane House! I had no idea that the kitchen was separate from the main house, and how different the two are. I had always assumed that the most dangerous job for a slave was in the fields, but your expertise showed me that the kitchen (because of the heat and potential for fire) was actually the most dangerous for a slave woman…
