“Joel Lane” Reads Mayor’s Proclamation Naming April as Raleigh History Month

Today at noon at the North Carolina State Capitol, Joel Lane, portrayed by Terry Washam, read Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker’s proclamation naming April as Raleigh history month. In an effort to encourage residents to visit the Raleigh area’s heritage sites, costumed re-enactors from several of the sites handed out the Raleigh Heritage Trails’ new 2010 Passport to passers by. Those who visit six of the ten sites by March 31, 2011 and get their passport stamped, may collect a prize. To download a copy of the Passport, please click here: Download 2010 Passport Here

Thank you so much for letting our IB Human Geography class come tour the Joel Lane house. I really enjoyed learning about how high-class people lived back them. I was surprised to hear that they were always working and had no time to themselves. I was also shocked at the size of the beds. They were so small! You two really played good parts and made me feel like I was really back in those times.
