Celebrating 250 years of the Joel Lane Museum House!
Celebrating 250 years of the Joel Lane Museum House!

Before there was Wake County; before there was Raleigh; before the United States won independence ...there was Joel Lane’s House. Built in 1769, the House celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2019! We look forward to a year of celebration, beginning with Elliot Engel’s “The Brilliance of Jane Austen,” and continuing with lectures, parties, and an assortment of exciting events. Please keep an eye on this page for details.

In the meantime, we hope you will join us for a tour of Wake County’s Oldest House, where you can step back through those 250 years of history. We are currently observing our winter hours, and offer tours on Saturdays at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00, or on weekdays by appointment.

What visitors say

Thank you for the excellent tour of the Joel Lane House.  I learned a lot about the history of Raleigh as well as the Joel Lane House.  I learned how harsh conditions were back then and how we take for granted things they did not have back then.  The structure of houses has really changed a lot since the Joel Lane House was built.
